Shogi, often referred to as Japanese Chess, presents a strategic variation of traditional chess with distinctive rules and gameplay mechanics.

The primary difference lies in the ability for players to reuse captured opponent pieces as their own, adding layers of complexity and tactical depth to the game. Notably, all pieces except the King and Gold General can be promoted upon entering the opponent’s zone, transforming their movement capabilities.

Players are restricted from positioning two or more Pawns consecutively in the same vertical line unless they have been promoted. Additionally, although it is possible to deliver checkmate to the King using one's own Pawn, executing checkmate with a Pawn captured from the opponent is prohibited, as this is considered an insult to the King.
